4:03 – The Louisiana Purchase territory wasn’t all unorganized by the time frame we’re talking about here. Some of it was, but other states were a territorial version of the state they would eventually become, and still others had been accepted into the union. Because of the social and political problem of slavery, even these less populated states were considered for acceptance one at a time and were often hard fought by both sides of the issue.
